Those were the days! One of the greatest video montages ever of the 1960’s

Those of you who lived during these times will relish the memories that this video conjures up.  You might be amazed at the things you will remember; and probably owned during that time.

This is a fun video; and if you get wound up about the 1960's and want to know more check out Wikipedia - The 1960's

In the 1950’s, the old movies, songs, groups, and TV shows were so reminiscent of a much more gentler time.  Folks did their shopping on Saturday and filled up the car; and went to church on Sunday.

This video reminded me of the very first McDonald’s located in College Park, Georgia – which is just south of Atlanta.  Kids couldn’t wait to get home from school each day to watch American Bandstand.  Atlanta was just a mid-size city; and everyone else lived “out in the country!”

Everyone shopped in downtown Atlanta – and enjoyed Rich’s Department Stores, the Planter’s Peanut Man on the sidewalk handing out hot peanuts, and the 5 & 10 Cent Stores.  The Fox Theatre and the Loews Grand movie theatres were great for date night; and Stone Mountain when there was only a mountain.

Then came the 1960’s and things began to change. I remember being huddled around the TV a lot in those years to catch every bit of news when a tragic story hit. We would be shocked when the news was bad; and now five decades later nothing seems to shock us anymore.

There were no 24-hours news stations; and no pundits – just news anchormen - men of character and journalistic honesty.  America trusted their reports as being truthful, honest, and straight forward.  The test pattern came on after the evening news; and they played the National Anthem.

And before signing off, the announcer would say, “It is 11 O'clock, do you know where your children are?”  Perhaps today that is why so many folks today are ill and out of sorts the next day because TV programming never ends.  Parents put their kids to bed by 9 O'clock; and they went to bed when the TV signed off.

We put a man on the moon, backed down Castro, buried a President, and Civil Rights leader. There was Woodstock – when many feel that was the beginning of the last innocence of America. It was the era of “Rock and Roll.”

If you are older now and have trouble keeping up – the producer of this video made it where you can stop and pause; and just sit and look and remember.

In the beginning of the 1960’s, Americans were happy; and then things began to change – Cuban crisis, assassinations; and our presence in Vietnam.  And as things began to change, so did America.

Based on the Butterfly Theory, wonder how today would have been different if things had not changed so rapidly during that decade?

This decade is probably the decade that best describes a time that Americans will never know again; and the beginning of an era that they wish they could forget.

But for the good part and the great times, I just wish for one day I had a magic wand and could take my children and grandchildren through those times.   There was Elvis, Chubby Checker, and the Beatles.

I owned two of the 1960’s autos – a Mustang and a Corvair.  I also had a couple of the hair-do’s as well.  Those were the days of my early marriage; and I had two children born during the 1960’s as well.

Hope you don’t mind the personal interjections; but just thought you would like to either remember along with me; or if it was waaaaay before your time – you might enjoy seeing “How is was in the olden days!”    For the video click here.   Sit back relax and enjoy.  If the click button does not work click the link below.
