New York- Addressing a gathering of Pakistani Americans at a fundraising dinner in New York Imran Khan said, "Those who back drone attacks are the true enemies of the United States because majority of the victims of these attacks are innocent with many women and children among them. Militants are usually the sole beneficiaries because victim's families become easy recruits."
Chairman PTI thanked Professor Mary Ellen of Notre Dame University for attending the event and being a true humanitarian. He praised her for selflessly raising her voice against the drone attacks even though she is not directly affected by the attacks herself. He also thanked Mr. Clive Stafford Smith and the women of Code pink who traveled to Pakistan to join PTI's peace march to Waziristan against drone attacks.
The fundraising dinner generated over $150,000 and was organized on October 26th, 2012 with the efforts of members of New York, Upstate New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Washington D.C., Massachusetts, Chicago, Arizona, Atlanta, California, Texas, Ohio, Seattle and Oklahoma chapters of PTI USA.
PTI Westchester Coordinator and Former PTI New York General Secretary Yasir Ali welcomed the Chairman on behalf of PTI USA. Chairman Organizing Committee Mr. Mahmood Ahmed Awan thanked the attendees and participants for their efforts in making the event successful.
The fundraising dinner was streamed live worldwide via PTI Live stream channel by senior PTI New York member Mr. Muhammad Altaf Mian.
The mega event also included a telethon which was moderated by PTI New Jersey Coordinator and Former Information Secretary Mehreen Saeed and was televised live across North America on TV One and Aaj TV USA to help spread the message of PTI.
A car rally was also arranged earlier by the youth of PTI under the leadership of Basit Irfan, Abdul Wahab Shah, Amer Chaudhry, Noman Malik and Waheed Butt to welcome the PTI Chairman.
