Thoroughly Modern Millie, which won a Tony for Best Musical in 2002, is now presenting at the Candlelight Pavilion in Claremont, CA.
The story is set in 1922 in New York City as a young girl, Millie Dillmount, arrives from Kansas searching for a new life in the modern world of the roaring twenties. The musical is based on the 1967 film by the same title, which was nominated for multiple Academy Awards. The film starred Julie Andrews, James Fox, and Mary Tyler Moore. The stage production was adapted first in the year 2000.
The production at the Candlelight Pavilion features Adrianna Lyons as Millie and Jason Evans as Jimmy Smith and it is directed by John LaLonde. It is a parade of dance numbers of the music that was the craze of the 20s, Charleston, with impressive toe-tapping routines.
Experiencing Millie in her modern world at the Candlelight Pavilion, however, does not stop with the music. As a “fine dining and musical theater,” the ticket price (ranging, based on location, from $48 to $68) includes a dinner entrée along with the performance. This is a waiter-served dinner in a 299-seat house that offers cozy tables for two as well as large tables for eight, booths, even private balcony rooms. Drinks, appetizers, and desserts are available at an additional price. Dinner is served prior to the musical’s first act. Dessert is served at the intermission.
Thoroughly Modern Millie will run until May 16, 2010 - Thursdays through Sundays. Tickets can be purchased by calling 909.626.3296 ext 1 or visiting http://www.candlelightpavilion.com .
The Ben D. Bollinger's Candlelight Pavilion is located at 455 West Foothill Blvd, Claremont CA 91711.
