Another Thoroughbred stallion will soon be on his way to Turkey after having been purchased by Turkish bloodstock agent Tarik Tekce on behalf of local owner/breeder Serdar Kemal Ozcolak. The horse is multiple graded stakes winner Zanjero. This sale has been confirmed by trainer Murat Sancal and published by Blood Horse on Dec. 15.
Zanjero has been placed into 30-day quarantine by Sancal at his Sancal Racing at Elmedorf Farm located in Lexington, Kentucky.
Zanjero is a nine-year-old stallion, sired by Cherokee Run out of Checkered Flag by A.P. Indy. He is a half brother to Victory Lap, stakes winner, and also to Acacia, Grade II-placed runner. Thus far, Zanjero has been standing at Ro Parra's Millennium Stud in Lexington for a fee of $7,500 in 2013. The horse was bred in Kentucky by Tony Holmes and Walter Zent
His scheduled departure date has been set for Jan. 13. In Turkey, Zanjero will stand at the Jockey Club of Turkey's Karacabey National Stud in Bursa. His fee has been set at 6,000 Turkish Lira (about $3,000 in U.S. funds).
As a race horse, Zanjero earned a career record of 6-5-4 from 18 race starts. His winnings amount to $1,620,786.
The Zanjero announcement follows by a couple of days the sale and move of After Market who will stand at the Jockey Club of Turkey's National Stud following his purchase by the partnership of Hakan Yuceturk and Hakan Sabri Ozcan of Istanbul.
