The stars were on the red carpet at Odeon Leicester Square on October 22, 2013 in London, England. Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Christopher Eccleston (Malekith), Idris Elba (Heimdell), Stellan Skarsgård (scientist Erik Selvig), Kat Dennings (sidekick Darcy Lewis) and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Algrim / Kurse) along with many dignitaries were on hand.
Advance word on the Thor sequel is good, especially Hiddleston's Loki (a fan favorite). In fact it's said that Loki is the best thing in the film and it perhaps suffers that he is not featured more prominently. Eccleston's Malekith has been speculated to be the weak spot in the film. Eccleston is perhaps known to fans as the ninth Doctor Who incarnation (2005). Idris Elba returns as Heimall after a stint earlier this summer as the star of Pacific Rim, not to mention his classy BBC show Luther.
Fans should remember to stay and watch the closing credits for additional Easter egg type filmed segments, a trademark of Marvel films by this point. Thor: The Dark World's director Alan Taylor (also a noted Game of Thrones director) was outspoken in his opinion about a segment shoehorned into his closing credits. Apparently there is another filmed segment completely at the end of the credits, perhaps a reward to sit thru the seemingly never ending crawl of contributors names.
