According to ComicBook.com on Sept. 3, Marvel Studios rolled out their Loki viral campaign in order to promote "Thor: The Dark World". The name that was chosen initially was #freeloki, but it turned out that a hashtag by that name was already taken by someone else promoting a petition to reach the goal of getting the Loki character his own stand alone film. At this point, the petition has risen to over 9,000 signatures. Perhaps Agent Phil Coulson will be getting some competition.
As a result, Marvel Studios had to choose the alternate hashtag of #freelokisweeps to get fans an opportunity to win a t-shirt signed by actor Tom Hiddleston. Of course, one could say that Hiddleston's appearance at the San Diego Comic Con in full Loki costume pretty much got the attention of fans as it is in order to get the promotional ball rolling for the Marvel film. However, there was a common theme at the convention where a lot of actors wore costumes and walked among fans on the convention floor hiding in plain sight.
"Thor: The Dark World" is scheduled to be relased on Nov. 8.
