Thor steals Spidey's Thunder

Spider-Man 4 has been officially put on hold due to creative issues as Director Sam Raimi wants the Vulture as the villain, while Sony is giving a more than justifiable - NO! This looks like it may be good news for the Asgardian god of thunder, Thor, since Kenneth Branagh's film seems to have snagged the coveted May 6, 2011 release date.

Thor has been garnering a considerable amount of hype on its recent casting alone. Stars include Chris Hemsworth in the lead along with Idris Elba, Natalie Portman, Ray Stevenson, Kat Dennings, Samuel L Jackson,  Anthony Hopkins as Odin and the recently announced Rene Russo as Frigga. Of course Thor's comic creator Stan Lee will be making an ever anticipated cameo in the movie as well. The film is shaping up to be a grouping of Hollywood powerhouses as well as mythical gods, and should begin filming January 8th.

The release date is all to important as 2011 looks to be a massive year for comic book releases. As shown below:

THOR - May 6, 2011

GREEN LANTERN - June 17, 2011

TRANSFORMERS 3 - July 4, 2011

HARRY POTTER and CAPTAIN AMERICA are also being released that summer, despite the latter's lack of cast information.
