Natalie Portman's latest film release, Thor, hit Scottsdale theaters this weekend, but it might be one of the last films fans of the actress see with her as the star. Digital Spy reported on Saturday that the actress might give up acting once her baby arrives later this summer. The actress revealed she was pregnant late in 2010.
Natalie Portman made this claim in a recent interview. The actress wants to follow in the footsteps of Audrey Hepburn and focus entirely on her child once it arrives. Natalie has been a star on the big screen since the age of twelve. It was at that young age that she made her debut in The Professional. She rose to stardom as Amidala in the most recent Star Wars Trilogy opposite Hayden Christensen.
Her 2010 film release, Black Swan, earned critical acclaim, and Natalie won both the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in this film. Some might say her career is still just beginning.
As for her recent release Thor, that film managed to bring in $66 million at the box office this weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This did not beat out the 2011 box office record set by Fast Five last weekend. That film managed to bring in $86 million.
Fans on Twitter have been buzzing about the film and Natalie's performance in Thor since its release on Friday. Not all of the fan reaction to the film was positive. Here are some of the comments made on Twitter today:
Thor Review: excellent special effects. Father son story. Natalie Portman was wasted. 3.5 stars
My official review of THOR: Very solid, entertaining movie. Similar to Iron Man. And of course, a very gorgeous Natalie Portman.
Saw Thor last night with @mikeroy. It was pretty awful, in my opinion. Natalie Portman is still my lil dreamboat, though.
One fan even made a comment about the actress and her performance in Black Swan today:
Saw BLACK SWAN. Darren Aronofsky's direction was excellent and Natalie Portman's performance was amazing. Strong finish too.
Thor can be seen in theaters in Scottsdale and around the country now. What do you think? Would you miss the work of Natalie Portman if she gave up acting?
