If your child has a touch of Thomas the Tank-fever, you might want to check out the film, "Thomas and the Runaway Kite," showing in select theaters on Saturdays in January.

The only theater in our area showing the movie is Bow Tie Cinemas, located on State Street in Schenectady. All tickets are five dollars. The movie is 52 minutes long and rated G.

Other ways to enjoy Thomas:

  • If you can't make the film or prefer to spend time with your Thomas-lover indoors, check out the Thomas and Friends website, filled with several games and activities for your child to enjoy for free.

  • In the summer the Upper Hudson Railroad in North Creek features a Day Out with Thomas. You can purchase tickets to ride on Thomas as well as meet Sir Topham Hat, play with trains and check out the Thomas merchandise. The 2010 dates will be posted on the calendar soon. Many of the train rides sell out at this event so plan ahead.

  • If you are up for a day trip, the Six Flags in Springfield, MA, features a Thomas Town section of the park filled with Thomas and Friends rides and activities. Springfield is about an hour and a half southeast of Albany. The park is open from late May through Labor Day.

  • If your child just enjoys trains in general, you may want to look in the free January Art Night at the Schenectady Museum, Friday from 5pm-7pm. The model trains will be running during this time.
