Australian author Thomas Keneally, best known for Schindler's List, will sign copies of his new book The Daughters of Mars in the Cindy Pritzker Auditorium of the Harold Washington Library Center (HWLC), located at 400 South State Street, Chicago, Illinois 60605 on the evening of Wednesday, September 25, 2013. The event begins at 6:00 p.m.
The Chicago Public Library (CPL), states, “The Daughters of Mars is the intriguing title of Thomas Keneally's latest novel. Keneally… has written an epic, unforgettable story of two sisters from Australia, both trained nurses, whose lives are transformed by the cataclysm of the first World War.”
In 1915, two spirited Australian sisters join the war effort as nurses, escaping the confines of their father’s farm and carrying a guilty secret with them. Used to tending the sick as they are, nothing could have prepared them for what they confront, first near Gallipoli, then on the Western Front.
At once vast in scope and extraordinarily intimate, The Daughters of Mars brings World War I to vivid, concrete life from an unusual perspective. A searing and profoundly moving tale, it pays tribute to men and women of extraordinary moral resilience, even in the face of the incomprehensible horrors of modern war.
The CPL states, “Books will be available for purchase and the author will sign books at the conclusion of the program.” Seating in the HWLC’s Pritzker Auditorium “is first come, first served; reservations not required.”
