Thomas Hickson Antiques had some of the best antiques at Nelson Garrett’s Spring Show 2014, held at the Citadel’s Altman Athletic Center in downtown Charleston, SC on March 22-23, 2014. He has exhibited in the past at North Charleston’s Village Antiques Show at Park Circle. He took over his wife’s (Elizabeth Hickson’s) antique business that was once located in Phoenix, AZ. They traveled the country looking for the best ceramics for years and amassed a large collection. In the past they have sold antiques on the Internet from Ruby Lane and TIAS. Thomas now lives in Summerville, SC.
He has a great collection of ceramics that includes Rookwood and Roseville. Charles Lotton Studios made some of the art glass pieces he has. He also has a King Tut art glass vase and several pieces by Phoenix Art Glass. These are not the ordinary pieces but things that are some of their best.
The antiques dealers also included Paul A. Dunbar of Chestnut Galleries with his ceramics and furniture - Len Harmon with a large collection of silver, ceramics and oil paintings - Peddler Jim of Savannah with a great collection of exceptional jewelry and Rose Marie Oakes collection of books, including South Carolina books.
The Nelson Garrett’s next antique show in Charleston will be May 31 – June 1, 2014 at the same location. There will be plenty of parking available and it is easy to get to from Lockwood Blvd., near the Ashley River Bridge. Their show is now the only privately sponsored regular antiques show in Charleston. Their website is www.NelsonGarretts.com.
