I don't know about you but I think most Americans are worried about why our economy can't even produce enough low wage busy work for most of us let alone jobs you might want to make a career out of. If you pay attention to this years annual convocation of CPAC they will tell you all of us better start payng attention to multi-culturalism because it will turn America into a nation of bi-racial mutts that will cause the downfall of this nation.
Forget for a minute that Norman Rockwell's white America never ever existed in reality only in the Saturday Evening Post, this years CPAC line-up is choked full of nuts of the racist, homophobic, and anti-democratic and free speech kind, except when it is their variety of hate speech that is free. Even the Republican presidential contenders, got their opportunity to be real conservatives and mouth their white resentment at losing their illegitimate white privilege, because bigotry has no place in a nation that at least pretends all people are created equal.
One of the spokespeople for the racist Right was Peter Brimelow who somehow misses the irony of his own immigration and the name of his website VDARE, named for Virginia Dare, the first immigrant born in America at the Lost Colony of Roanoke near present day Manteo, North Carolina, with his stance that now that I am here no other immigrants should be allowed in, unless you are white.
Others on this hall of shame panel included, Robert Vandervoort, John Derbyshire and Congressmen Stephen King (R-IA) along with a statement by Serge Trifkovic all of which have known ties to white nationalist or supremacist groups through publications like American Renaissance, or Chronicles. They all pretend they aren't a bunch of nuts by hiding their hatred in pseudo-intellectual sounding gibberish most of the time.
The point of this is not that this group should be silenced, I have faith in most Americans ability to realize that this group of haters is capitalizing on the fears of a group of whites who Corporate America has exploited for years to hold wages down by duping them into being against unions, the only thing that might have pulled them up. Now instead of demanding that Corporations who created millions of illegal jobs to avoid paying taxes, work place safety, workman's Comp and environmental laws be prosecuted for their law breaking, people like the Peter Brimelow will convince them that it is the immigrant that is the reason they have fallen off the table economically.
Most American's understand what this racist drivel is all about and I believe it is good to have it exposed because it looks more ignorant with each rant. What I question is why Santorum, Gingrich, Romney and other Conservatives didn't denounce this as not part of a rational discourse about the direction of this nation. Their failure to do so makes it appear all the more legitimate to the segement of white America that is probably as exploited as Blacks or Latino's in todays economy.
At this point it becomes a fair question do Gingrich, Santorum and Romney believe that blacks are more sociopathic than whites, or that when blacks are left to themselves any and all civilization disappears. This is just a sampling of the ideas expressed in American Renaissance, or VDARE. This is really where the whole code of the birther movement comes from, and underneath the whole idea that Obama is not one of us is the real anger that a d... N..... is in the WHITE House.
The anti-imigration contingent was followed up by the anti-Islamic crowd. This group included Pam Gellar whose most recent Islamaphobic tirade was directed against Butterball Turkey, Robert Spencer and James Lafferty of the Virginia Anti-Sharia Law Task Force. Like most of the insane Right they can no more tell you how Muslims would impose Sharia Law on unsuspecting America anymore than homophobic Rick Santorum can explain to you how Gay marriage destroy's heterosexual marriage more than say unemployment or adultery. It is interesting that those who want to foist Biblical law on unsuspecting Americans would accuse another religion of eyeing their spiritual territory. Freud might call this group an example of some serious projection.
The types of arguements this years crop of conservative loonies is mouthing have been around for a long time and won't go away anytime soon and it is this kinds of idiotic speech that free speech was designed to protect because in a democracy the people are deemed intelligent enough to know ignorance when they hear it. What I do think is that until Conservatives and Republicans denounce this sort of bigotry there is no reason why the rest of us should pretend that there is anything legitimate about or deserving of respect about the Republican Party or Conservatism in general and that includes the Right Wing lap dog corporate media and its pretense that these arguemnts have any legitimacy.
CPAC does more to prove the recent Brock University study of Hodson and Busseri that noted low cognitive ability and low abstract reasoning are highly predictive of both conservatism and prejudice. Forrest Gump was absolutely right stupid is as stupid does.
