This weekend, winter fun, Lafayette Jan.14-15 part II

Within an hour and half:  Tippecanoe River State Park.  North of Winamac.  No ski equipment rentals.  Flat to rolling hills, wooded trails. (link)

Within two and half hours:  Lake County Parks, LaPorte County Parks, Indiana Dunes SP, Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

Lake County Parks:  Deep River Waterpark- ice skating available.  $4 per session, skate rental  5$ .  Skiing at Lemon Lake, Stoney Run and Oak Ridge Prairie Parks have ski rentals available (snow conditions permitting).  Deep River Park (not the water park) does not have ski equipment for rent, but a nice gentle terrain for cross country.  (link)

LaPorte County Parks:  No ski equipment available for rent.  The following parks do have cross country ski trails: Luhr, Bluhm,and  Red Mill Parks.   Red Mill is small but nice for beginners, nice sledding venue. (link)

Indiana Dunes National Park: no ski rentals.  Ly-co-ki-we Trail, also known as Ski Trail/Horse Trail on US 20 has a number of trails and can be challenging.  The bunny trail has been closed but the trail nearest the parking lot is fine for advanced beginners.  Skiing is also available at West Beach and on the Calumet Trail. (link)

Indiana Dunes State Park:  Several trails behind the dunes are good for skiing.   No rentals available. (link)

Note: sledding is not allowed in any of the Dunes Parks due to the damage they inflict in the dunes.
