Treasure hunters and vintage aficionados are spoiled for choice, as there are not one, but two large flea markets over this last weekend in February 2012.
Flea Market fun
It's called SF FLEA. In Herbst Pavilion at Fort Mason Center, local artists and designers hold forth over both Saturday and Sunday, February 25 and 26. Artisan food and beverage merchants join this semi-annual market which is an opportunity to support Bay Area local craftspeople and the community. Have a stroll around the flea market while enjoying the entertainment. Proceeds from the fair and admission, set at $5 goes to benefit the Ecology Center of San Francisco (ECO), a non-profit cooperative. About 50 vendors are selling include gifts for friends, home and pets, pies, cookies, chocolates and coffee, wines, jewelry, clothing, paintings and sculpture, skincare, homemade soap and more. There are teach-ins and talks. Five food trucks will be on site to cater to hungry shoppers.
More flea market fun
The weather forecast is good, so head for the indoor/outdoor Treasure Island Flea, held on the final weekend each month from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Food trucks are out on the Great Lawn while shoppers explore indie designers creations, antique collectors' finds, vintage discoveries and artists' expressions, lots of one-of-a-kind stuff. Sited on the grounds of the 1939 World's Fair, there are spectacular skyline views. For the carless, there is even a 108 MUNI every 20 minutes for the ten minute journey over the bridge. This Saturday and Sunday, February 25 and 26. Sponsors and friends include SFMade and SF Fashion and Merchants Alliance. Coming up on its first anniversary this May, this flea market assures all that it is never the same twice. Entry is $3, free parking. Join their Facebook page for latest offers.
