Young Chaz Bundick (he was born in 1986) is a pioneer of what’s known as the chillwave musical movement. He’s also appearing under his stage name, Toro y Moi, this Saturday, March 2 in San Francisco.
When Toro y Moi takes the stage at The Independent (628 Divisadero) he’ll bring with him his wide array of influences ranging from Daft Punk to Animal Collective and J Dilla. Touted by SF Weekly as “put(ting) a new fire under his cool electronic funk”, was born in Columbia, South Carolina and graduated from the University of South Carolina in Spring 2009, having studied graphic design.
He first took the moniker Toro y Moi in 2001, when he began to make recordings in his bedroom at a young age. His latest EP is titled Freaking Out.
It’s always refreshing to see new young talent hit the stage. Check it out!
