The first weekend of 2013 is probably going to be a slow one for movies, with only a couple of new releases. Still, it will be a good one for fans of horror with the release of a new 3D installment of “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and indy fans with the release of the drama “Promised Land”. What will you be seeing this weekend?
Nationwide Releases
“The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D”: This continuation of the horror classic directed by John Luessenhop follows a young woman named Heather (Alexandra Daddario), who learns she has inherited an estate in Texas from her grandmother and takes her friends on a road trip to claim it. But there is more lurking in the basement, including a chainsaw-wielding killer. Available for viewing in 3D. Runtime: 92 minutes. Rated R for strong grisly violence and language throughout.
“Promised Land”: Directed by Gus Van Sant, this drama stars Matt Damon as Steve Butler, a salesman who travels to a rural town that has been hit hard by the economic decline with his partner (Frances McDormand). They want to buy drilling rights to the townspeople’s properties, but the objection of a teacher (Hal Holbrook) and one of the townsfolk (John Krasinski) challenges Steve both professionally and personally.
