This weekend in SoCal jazz

So far 2012 the weather in southern California has been mild and somewhat balmy at times.  The weather is perfect for outdoor concerts.  This weekend there will be both indoor and outdoor events around the area.  It is also a holiday weekend.  Tonight you can celebrate George Duke's birthday with him at Catalina Bar & Grill in Los Angeles.  The George Duke Fusion Band will perform at  8pm.  Also tonight, the Scott and Ginger show will hit the stage at Vitello's Jazz & Supper Club in Studio City at 8pm.

On Saturday, January 14, Cathy Segal-Garcia, Linda A. Smith, Judy Jaress & California Pop and Jazz Council will do a show at the NoHo Farmers Market at 10 am in North Hollywood.  In the evening, Donna Dessen and the Paul Weitz Quartet have a 7pm show at Nola's A Taste of New Orleans in Los Angeles.  At the Blue Whale in Little Tokyo of downtown Los Angeles, the Vardan Ovsepian Chamber Ensemble Part II have a 9pm show.

On Sunday, January 15, Betty Bryant has an 11am show at Nola's A Taste of New Orleans.  At 7:30pm that evening, you can catch Upright Cabaret's: The Troubadours at Catalina Bar & Grill.  Capping off the holiday weekend will be the 7th annual Culver City Dr. King Celebration on Monday, January 15 from 11am to 7pm.  The city of Culver City celebrates the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr with panel discussions, music, food and activities for the whole family.  It will be hosted by John Marshall Jones and Beverly White.  The location is the Senior Center on 4095 Overland Avenue.  For further information visit their website http://www.culvercity.org or call 310-253-6675.
