This Saturday and Sunday, May 15 and 16, set down your dumbbells and pick up a drum at drumSTRONG, the planet's longest continuous rhythm drum-a-thon. A world famous signature event, DrumsForCures, Inc. presents the rhythm-driven cancer health festival. The beautiful rolling hills of Misty Meadows farm located just south of Rea Rd. on Providence Rd. sets the scene for this heart warming family event. The essence of the event is beautifully conveyed in the words of founder Scott Swimmer. . ."“… at drumSTRONG we are gathering folks to rhythm, providing community service opportunities and helping to facilitate the sharing of valuable cancer resources; lending support to those touched by cancer...".
DrumStrong is the heartchild of Charlottean Scott Swimmer. On June 16, 2004, Mason, Scott and Corola's teenage son was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. Today, after many months of cancer treatments and multiple surgeries, Mason, now 21 is cancer free. In 2006, the Lance Armstrong Foundation chose Mason Swimmer as the invited guest survivor in their Livestrong challenge 'Ride For The Roses'. According to Scott, on the plane ride home and fresh from the inspiration of survivor's stories participating in the Livestrong event, drumSTRONG was born.
Recently, Carolinas Medical Center announced that DrumsForCures will be the 'keystone' in their initiative to raise money for research and clinical trials at Levine Children's Hospital. All funds donated to Levine Children's Hospital through DrumsForCures will be matched dollar for dollar by The Leon Levine Foundation.
Scott, Mason and the rest of the Swimmer family invite you and your family to come out and play, drum, dance and enjoy two days of fun festivities with world class entertainment appearing on the main stage. The drums start beating at 12:00 noon on Saturday May 15th and continue non-stop through 5:00 p.m. Sunday May 16th.
