Rain is expected off an on in the San Diego area throughout the weekend of January 25th to January 27th, so many outdoor activities may be canceled or affected by the weather. Here is a list of events still going on for this weekend including some indoor events. All events are free unless otherwise specified.
The Tijuana River Natural Estuarine Research Reserve has two planned walks this weekend. One is a nature walk at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 26th and the other is a wetlands walk, talk and cleanup arranged by the Dusty Socks Club on Sunday, January 27th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Both may be affected by the weather. People participating in these activities should plan on bringing rain gear if the hikes do take place. Call 619-575-3613 to confirm that the walks are still taking place or for more information. The reserve is located at 301 Caspian Drive in Imperial Beach. The TRNERR also has a great indoor interpretive center with hands on exhibits for children.
The Mission Trails Regional Park cancels its nature walks if it is raining. There is usually a nature walk on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at Kumeyaay Lake and one at 9:30 a.m. at the Visitor’s Center. Call the park at 619-668-3281 to confirm if these walks as well as if the kid’s Nature Club and the Park Beautification Crew are still having activities.
There will be a free Birding Basics class held indoors at the Mission Trails Regional Park visitor’s center on Saturday, January 26th at 1:00 p.m. Students will learn how about the parts of a bird and about common species in the San Diego area. There is also an indoor art class for children called Nora’s Children’s Art at 2:00 p.m. on the 26th. The cost for the art class is $12 and includes all the art supplies. This weekend’s art project will be “aboriginal dot paintings”.
The trail improvement barbecue work party at the Crestridge Ecological Reserve in El Cajon scheduled for Saturday, January 26th has been canceled due to predicted weather conditions and conditions on the trail.
