There’s no better way to usher in fall racing season than to clean up that diet and get down and dirty with a few thousand new friends. And, luckily for Bay Area athletes, we’ve got opportunities to do both this weekend with the Great Sugar Dump 5K and Muddy Buddy San Jose.
Join hundreds of runners along the beautiful Coyote Creek Trail in Milpitas this Sunday, September 30, for the focal point of a flat and fast Great Sugar Dump 5K. The theme of this year’s race is, “Drink water not sugar,” and participants will be given a free sports water bottle in exchange for bringing in a can or bottle of sugary soda. The run will start and finish at the Cisco Systems campus at 115 North McCarthy Blvd in Milpitas, with all proceeds going to Generations Community Wellness, whose mission is to equip vulnerable individuals and communities to advance their health through physical activity and nutrition.
Or if mud and mayhem is more up your alley, head on over to the Muddy Buddy San Jose, which is also taking place this Sunday, September 30, at Joseph D. Grant Regional Park. Teams of two will run and bike through various off-road obstacle courses completing up to 10 military-style challenges along the way. Participants must rely on a combination of teamwork and true grit to conquer the courses, each of which culminates with a crawl through the infamous mud pit toward the finish line. Funds raised will benefit the Challenged Athletes Foundation, which empowers individuals with physical challenges to find success in sports – and in life.
