What are you doing this weekend? Well, if your plans are not centered on roller derby, it is time to make a schedule change.
Nothing relieves the tension of a long week like strapping on your skates to get some training from some of the best derby skaters in Phoenix. Grab your skates and gear and head to Pequeno Park (777 N. Coronado St, Chandler, AZ) for a free on-skates bootcamp from Arizona Derby Dames’ own Jill O’Shotz from 8-10pm on Friday night (1/11) at the monthly RDPL Rock Star clinic.
RDPL is currently open to any female skater and encourages all to check out these not to be missed trainings. Refs are also welcomed! Be sure to follow RDPL, as the 2013 season will be full of free top-notch trainings from some of the best skaters around.
What derby weekend is complete without watching a bout? Definitely not this weekend! Saturday night brings AZ derby fans a double header at the Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum (1826 W McDowell Rd, Phoenix). The Phoenix Rattleskates will be going skate-to-skate on the banked track as The Dangerzone takes on The Sting in some not to be missed men’s derby style. More banked track action will follow, as The Runaway Brides take on The Schoolyard Scrappers.
Tickets are available at the door and online at ArizonaDerbyDames.com with doors opening at 6pm.
Not feeling the banked track this weekend? Don’t worry, because the Desert Dolls will be putting on the glitz and they have flat track fever. Watch as The Pretty H8 Machines battle it out against the Joon Cleavers at Castle Sports Club (11420 N 19th Ave, Peoria, AZ).
Tickets for this showdown are available at www.desertdollsrollerderby.com/tickets. Doors open at 6:30pm.
That is the Arizona roller derby forecast for the weekend.
