This weekend in North Metro Atlanta arts February 14-17

Love is in the air all over North Metro Atlanta! With so much happening, why not take your Valentine out for a night on the town? Or hey, why not a whole weekend? Here are just a few of the sizzling things to do this weekend.

This Weekend in Music

The Atlanta Symphony will present a special Valentines Day concert featuring pianist and singer Jim Brickman, February 14 at 8pm. The concert will feature Mr.Brickman, along with the symphony, performing standards associated with romance. The concert will be held at Atlanta Symphony Hall in the Woodruff Arts Center in Midtown Atlanta. The Atlanta Symphony will present Viva Italia!, February 15 and 16 at 8pm. This pops concert will feature the symphony along with the Italian vocal pop trio Poperazzi. he concert will be held at Atlanta Symphony Hall in the Woodruff Arts Center in Midtown Atlanta. The Georgia Philharmonic Orchestra will present a concert February 16 at 7pm. The concert will feature the winners of the groups Young Artist Concerto Competition. The Johns Creek Symphony will present a concert on February 16 at 8pm. The concert will be held in the theatre at Johns Creek High School in Johns Creek and will feature many Baroque and Classical favorites. The Atlanta Symphony will present Charlotte and the Music Maker on Sunday, February 17. This family concert is designed to introduce children to the orchestra and it's instruments in a fun way the whole family will love! There will be two performances at Symphony Hall in the Woodruff Arts Center in Midtown Atlanta on Sunday. The first is at 1:30pm, and the second is at 3:30pm. The Gwinnett Symphony will present a concert on February 17 at 5:30pm. Also featured as a pre-concert treat will be a performance by the Gwinnett Youth Orchestra at 4:30pm. This Weekend in Theatre

Lolita Snipes Productions will open a production of Good God A'Mighty this weekend at the 14th Street Playhouse. This hilarious comedy, which stars Tony Award winning actress Melba Moore, takes a comical look into the African American ecclesiastics and emulates the ways and culture of church folk in a way that is appropriate and funny for the entire family! Good God A'Mighty will play at the 14th Street Playhouse in Midtown Atlanta through February 24. Act 3 Productions will open their production of The Arabian Nights, February 14 at 8pm. The show, which is appropriate for ages 13 and older, is based on the Book of the Thousand and One Nights and presents several of the lesser known tales from Arabian Nights. The Aurora Theatre will open their production of Master Harold...and the Boys, February 14 at 8pm. Part of the Harvel Lab Series, Master Harold...and the Boys is an award winning drama that looks at a life changing experience arising out of a rainy ordinary day in 1950's South Africa. Due to adult content, this play is recommended for an adult audience. Master Harold...and the Boys will play at the Aurora Theatre in Lawrenceville through March 3. Center for Puppetry Arts will open a production of Tales of Edgar Allen Poe this weekend. The show is recommended for ages 12 and older, and presents several of Poe's famous works as seen by puppets. Tales of Edgar Allen Poe will play at Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta through March 3. Tickets are $15-$25 and include admission to the museum. Fabrefaction Theatre will open their production of The Odd Couple, February 14 at 8pm. This classic Neil Simon comedy presents the tale of those two roommates, Oscar and Felix, and their adventures. The Odd Couple is appropriate for an audience ages 13 and older, and will play at Fabrefaction Theatre in Midtown West Atlanta through March 3. Gypsy Theatre Company will open their production of Steel Magnolias on February 14 at 8pm. This classic comedy/drama is appropriate for ages 12 and older. Pinch N Ouch Theatre will present the world premier of the play Lets Make It on February 14 at 8pm. The play was written and directed by Grant McGowen, and is intended for an adult audience. The Broadway Bound Children's Theatre will open a production of Mad: History of the Hatter & Alice's Adventures in Wonderland on February 15 at 8pm. These two zany children's plays present Alice and the Mad Hatter as you have never seen them before! Mad: History of the Hatter & Alice's Adventures in Wonderland will play at New London Theatre in Snellville through February 24. This Weekend in Dance

The Alvin Ailey Dance Company will be at the Fox Theatre starting February 14. This groundbreaking modern dance company is said to be one of the legacies of American Dance. The show is appropriate for ages 12 and older, and will play at the Fox Theatre in Midtown Atlanta through February 17. The Atlanta Ballet will present Cinderella this weekend. This classic children's fairy tale is presented in a stunning 1 hour long ballet that will delight the entire family. Cici Kelley presents Phazes of Love 2013: A Choreographers Extravaganza on February 16. The show, which features 10 up and coming composers and countless talented dancers, will include a pre-show mixer, the performance, and an after show dance party. The event is for adults ages 18 and up only, anyone under age 18 will not be admitted. The event will be held at Terminal West in Atlanta beginning at 7:30pm. This Weekend in Visual Art

The High Museum of Art will open an exhibit called Frida & Diego: Passion, Politics, and Painting on February 14. The exhibit features the work of Mexican artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera.
