With a three-day weekend just around the corner and warm weather in the forecast for Chicago, you might be wondering what family-friendly events you and your kids can do. For the weekend of May 23 through 26, 2014, consider checking out the following events.

What’s Memorial Day weekend without a barbecue? This weekend, head to the Red, White & Bar-B-Q event held in Ty Warner Park (700 Blackhawk Dr., Westmont). The three-day event is held May 23 through 25, and features live music, carnival rides, and cooking demonstrations.

Watch history come alive through demonstrations and reenactors at the Living History Display in Cantigny Park’s First Division Museum (1s151 Winfield Rd., Wheaton). The family-friendly event starts at 10 a.m. on May 24. After the demonstration, make time to visit Cantigny’s museums and Tank Park.

Honor veterans by attending the City of Chicago’s Memorial Day Parade. Held on May 24, the event begins at 11 a.m. with a Wreath Laying Ceremony at Daley Plaza (Dearborn and Washington Streets, Chicago). The parade starts at noon at State and Lake Streets, then proceeds to Van Buren Street. The event is considered one of the largest parades in the country.

If you’re in the western suburbs, then consider adding St. Charles’ Memorial Day Activities to your schedule. The events on May 26 start with a flag-raising ceremony at 6 a.m. and include a parade and cemetery ceremonies. The events will be held throughout St. Charles.
