The Madera Vintners Association’s family wineries present Madera Wine Trail’s Wine and Chocolate Weekend on February 9th and 10th. Sample a wide variety of local wines as you make your way through the wine trail. On this particular weekend, right before Valentine’s Day, the wineries will be pairing chocolate with some of their wines along with live music, local art, and delicious food.
The wineries participating are Birdstone Winery, Chateau Lasgoity Winery, CRU Wine Company, Fäsi Estate Winery, Ficklin Vineyards, Idle Hour Winery, Pacific Crest Winery, Papagni Wines, Quady Winery, San Joaquin Wine Company, Sumner Peck Ranch Winery, and Westbrook Wine Farm.
Here’s the route we will be taking on the trail (just south of Yosemite National Park and then continuing south to Madera):
Idle Hour Winery will be pouring our six new wines released Jan 19. They recently won seven medals in the 2013 SF Chronicle Wine Competition (two gold, one silver, and four bronze medals). I'd love to have you taste these new wines. Along with the wine, live acoustic music will be played by Dave Henderson & the Henderson Project with sounds of James Taylor, Van Morrison, and Steely Dan. KT Lee Ranch Alpacas will be on hand with a few alpacas and sell some of their fiber products, warm socks, sweaters, blankets, and other products. Normal tasting hours are Friday thru Sunday, 11-5 pm, Sept- May, and Wednesday thru Sunday, 11-5pm, June-August. Please visit Idle Hour Winery’s website for more information.
Westbrook Wine Farm is one of the three Yosemite Sierra Wine Road foothill wineries at the northeast end of the Madera Wine Trail. Ray and Tammy Krause are all about the wines and provide personal winemaker attention to each visitor in a relaxed rural Sierra foothill setting just 35 minutes from Fresno or Madera. Their approach is a bit different than their fellow wineries in that they are by appointment only. Even their chocolate feature is unconventional in that they have invented a series of custom Mole Truffles which surprise and delight. Because they are savory, not sweet, they actually do go well with their totally dry wines. Please visit Westbrook Wine Farm’s website for wine selections, philosophy, dry wit and other winery info. To enhance the experience, the number of visitors is limited to 60 per day by appointment only on each of the two days during the February Wine and Chocolate and all other Wine Trail events. Reservations may be made by phone 559-868-3499 or email westbrookwine@netptc.net.
Fäsi Estate Winery is known for its romantic setting and just perfect for Valentine’s Day. Celebrate your love with excellent wine in a beautiful setting amidst vines and oak trees on the first Sierra Foothill overlooking the Central Valley and with a grand view of the Sierra Nevada's peaks. The small team at the Fäsi Estate Winery will be waiting to welcome and introduce you to their wines. Expect some fine Swiss chocolate as well. At Fäsi Estate Winery you will find it all, the wine, the setting and the chocolate. All you need to supply is the love. Their tasting room is open daily from 11am – 5pm. Please visit Fäsi Estate Winery’s website for more information.
Sumner Peck Ranch Winery’s varietals include: Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc 50/50 Blend, Merlot, and Muscat. For the Wine and Chocolate Weekend, they will have all of their gourmet nuts, chocolates, and food items plus a beautiful chocolate fountain for fresh fruit dipping. On the lunch and dinner menu, they will have the best French dips around and a chili bar. Normal tasting hours are 9am-6pm, 7 days a week. Please visit Sumner Peck Ranch Winery’s website for more information.
