This weekend, 'Hobbit' sequel and Tyler Perry's 'Madea' go head-to-head

This Friday, the second part of Peter Jackson’s “Hobbit” trilogy hits theaters, while Tyler Perry’s latest holiday-themed Madea movie promises some competition. Which one will you be seeing? Read about those and this weekend’s other new releases below.

Nationwide Releases:

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug”: Directed by Peter Jackson, this sequel to last year’s “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” continues the adventures of Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and the band of dwarves led by Thorin (Richard Armitage) as they travel to the Lonely Mountain to free the dwarves’ homeland from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Available for viewing in 3D. Runtime: 161 minutes. Rated PG-13 for extended sequences of intense fantasy action violence, and frightening images.

Tyler Perry’s a Madea Christmas”: This comedy written and directed by Tyler Perry has Perry reprising the role of Madea, who travels to the country with her friend, who wants to visit her daughter. As Madea spreads her own unique brand of Christmas cheer, relationships are tested and secrets revealed. Runtime: 105 minutes. Rated PG-13 for sexual references, crude humor, and language.
