SOFA Chicago, an art show of stunning works in glass, wood, metals and gems, has taken over Navy Pier’s upstairs space now through Nov. 2, 2013.

SOFA may sound like a funny name for a high-end show even though it does include exceptionally crafted conversational furniture pieces. But as art connoisseurs know, SOFA stands for Sculptural Objects Functional Art. The show has also added Design to its mantra because it includes seminars and special exhibits.

The show is also a good place to learn about latest art design trends. It tends to feature glass one year, ceramics another and a different art medium the next year.

Details: Hours: Saturday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Sunday, noon-6 p.m. Tickets are $15 each day or $25 three-day pass. Presented by Urban Expositions, SOFA Chicago 2013 is in Navy Pier's Festival Hall, 600 E. Grand Ave., Chicago, IL 60611
