Why not celebrate summer by attending the Andersonville Midsommarfest? Held on Clark Street in Chicago’s famed Andersonville neighborhood, the annual festival kicks off June 6 with a concert, and wraps up June 8. The festival’s Family Fun activities are free and are scheduled for June 7 and 8. Your child will enjoy facepainting, crafts, yoga, a giant inflatable slide, and more.
If ribs are more up your alley, then make time for Ribfest Chicago. The event is held June 6 through 8 at the intersection of Lincoln Ave., Irving Park Rd. and Damen Ave. in Chicago and features all things ribs. The annual fest features ribs from more than 15 vendors, as well as an assortment of festival food, including chicken tenders, tacos and fries. The festival’s Kids Square, held June 7 and 8, features yoga, music and an assortment of other activities.
World Environment Day at the Chicago Botanic Garden (1000 Lake Cook Rd., Glencoe), held June 7, is an all-day event that will inform and inspire your family to help the environment. Activities include plant giveaways, learning how you can help butterflies, free lectures, a farmer’s market selling local produce, displays and demonstrations, and will be held throughout the Chicago Botanic Garden. Horticulturists will also be on-site, and visitors are encouraged to ask their own gardening questions.
