This weekend buy locally produced fruits and vegetables

When you buy locally produced fruits and vegetables (and honey, bread, meats, milk, eggs) you help yourself become healthier, you help local businesses stay in business and keep your money in your community, you reduce the dependency on fuel and transport of good from far away places, and you encourage others to do it, too! This weekend, and most weekends, the Bakersfield community has several Farmers Markets to choose from. Here are some tips to get the most from your Farmers Market shopping experience:

  1. Walk through the entire Farmers Market and check the quality and the prices before making a purchase.
  2. Bring your own bags (to reduce trash and dependency on plastics).
  3. Plan your week's meals ahead of time so you know what you are shopping for, that reduces the foods that will spoil because they go unused.
  4. Budget a little extra so you can try something new or buy a treat.
