With cooler weather predicted for the Chicago area this weekend, you might be wondering what you can do with your family. From a bocce ball tournament to a farmers market, the weekend of Sept. 21 and 22 offers a number of exciting events.
Are you looking for a fun fall celebration? Then head to Oaktoberfest, held at Marion St. and North Boulevard, south of Lake St. in Oak Park. The festival features live music, including performances by Acoustic Syndicate and Honey Honey, and a number of local food vendors. Craft beer and wine are available for adults, while children will enjoy the root beer garden. Other family-friendly activities include karaoke, games, zucchini races and Irish dancing.
If you want to cheer on bocce ball teams this weekend, then the first annual bocce ball tournament at Pinstripes is for you. The event includes qualifying rounds and an exhibition at the South Barrington, Oakbrook and Northbrook locations on Sept. 21. The tournament continues on Sept. 22 with the championship round held at the Oakbrook location, and the prize for first place is $15,000.
Load up on seasonal and local produce at the Chicago Farmers Market at the Garfield Conservatory (300 North Central Park Ave. in Chicago). You and your family will enjoy talking to farmers about their produce, as well as exploring new fruits and vegetables to try at home. The market is held on Sept. 22 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
