On Saturday, April 16th, get to know owner of Ocular™ Fine Art Studios, Jamile Hamilton, as she in conjunction with RK Entertainment hosts Artful Licks-a collective where music and art collide. The event will take place at The Wine Bar in Downtown, Long Beach from 6pm-12am.
Hamilton is a graphic designer and fine artist, whose latest works entitled “Systematic Confusion” is an eagerly awaited conversation piece by fans of her previous installations. The art presentation is a combination of drawings and photography that are confirmed to be risqué. The pieces are reserved for “mature” lovers of fine art, but for Hamilton it’s her most honest and personal work to date.
"Systematic Confusion is an ode to one of my favorite artists, Salvador Dali-who said ‘One has to systematically create confusion, it sets creativity free’”, chimes Hamilton. “For me, it’s to dispel people’s perception of me as primarily a “PG” rated artist.”
A native of Inglewood, California, Hamilton has been an art enthusiast for most of her life; refining her craft for over 23 years now. She has developed an impressive resume` as a website and product designer as well as branding & graphics expert. Over time she has created marketing materials for a bevy of corporations, fashion boutiques and small businesses-proving that her talents are truly multifaceted. In 2005, she received her first Bachelor of Arts Degree from California State University at San Bernardino in Graphic Design and Marketing and then went on to receive her second degree in Traditional Animation, from California State University, Los Angeles in 2009.
Hamilton’s passion is creating works of fine art, but as a graphics specialist, she thrives. She admits that graphic design is how she makes her living and historically the most notable artists become popular after death. She therefore stays focused on becoming a visionary and educator. “I do the graphic design for the money and I do the fine art for me, not necessarily to sell anything but for people to see”, she muses. “Seeing reactions, hearing thoughts and feedback about my drawings, paintings and photos is what makes me happy. I've been blessed with the opportunity to share my artistic passion with children at the K-5 level, which has been really fun as well”, says Hamilton.
When asked, “What can we expect from Artful Licks?” the artist offers that “This is a side of my work that hasn't been seen by most people, other than that, good music, good vibes, chill and not a stuffy gallery, just a good time.”
Guests should also look forward to an entertaining evening of multiple DJ sets to keep the party going all night long. Tasty Pasty will also be on hand serving edible delights for the evening. The Wine Bar is located at 250 Ocean Boulevard, Long Beach, CA 90802. This is a 21 and over only, event and there is no cover at the door. RSVP today at firstname.lastname@example.org.
