This is a busy weekend for the Colorado film community. Start it off early tonight with a visit to the Bug Theatre for the monthly Emerging Filmmakers Project. Only $5 gets you in the door of this monthly event to see the best that local filmmakers have to offer.
Tomorrow night, local filmmakers Wally Wallace, Sean Williams, and Elizabeth Holloway premiere “Tokeasy”, an old-fashioned stoner comedy that takes on some big issues like the war on drugs, racism and prostitution. The screening starts at 9pm at the Oriental Theatre, 4335 W. 44th Ave, Denver 80212. Tickets may be purchased online.
Tomorrow also marks the beginning of Starfest, a huge science fiction convention that takes place annually at the Marriot DTC. In addition to some top name guests like Star Trek’s Jonathan Frakes, Firefly’s Jewel Staite, and Fringe’s John Noble, this year’s line-up also includes a new film festival, Digifest, highlighting the best in new media technologies. Patrick Sheridan will host a segment from the Emerging Filmmakers Project, screening films from some of the best Denver area filmmakers. Denver filmmakers are also represented at the event’s other film festival, Horrorfest, by director Ryan Notch, who will present his horror feature, Night Things. And finally, Mark Grove from Asgard Entertainment will be on hand to screen his latest feature film, Tengu, Saturday at 5pm. More event times can be found by looking at the Starfest schedule.
