Local horse owners have their pick of playful equine events this week, starting with two schooling shows on Saturday, February 16, 2013.
The Pegasus Event Center and riding instructor Jaime Topham will host an English fun show in the indoor arena. A variety of hunt seat and jumping classes will be offered. For more information you can email Pegasus at: pegasuseventcenter@live.com. The barn is located on Race Street in Grantsville, less than 40 miles west of Salt Lake and an easy commute out I-80. Weather is predicted to be clear and dry this weekend, so it should be a quick and pleasant trip.
If you prefer to show in the Davis County area, Bountiful’s Rockin E Farms, located at 230 S 1100 W will hold their Holiday Classic show with a variety of Western and Hunt Seat classes along with halter and showmanship. Trainer Barry Beach can be contacted for more information at 801-638-3876. This will be a fun and well organized event, complete with great food and terrific prizes. Riders of all levels are invited to participate.
Not in a showing mood? How about some team penning fun!? The Salt Lake Equestrian Park (located on 2200 West in SLC) offers a night of team penning from 4 to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19. Even if you’re just starting out, this friendly group always welcomes beginners. The experts are usually willing to share some helpful tips. This is a great way to get out and have a good time on horseback (plus the indoor arena is dry and warm). Check out the equestrian park’s website for more information.
Riders with a need for speed will want to head down to the SLC equestrian park next Sunday (that’s February 24, not this weekend) for the final race in the UTBRA winter series. Races begin at noon with time only slots offered earlier in the morning. Check back next week for more details on this event, or visit the UTBRA website.
No matter what your discipline or level of expertise, this week offers a great selection of equine activity.
