The following activities below are happening in Western Queens for families to participate in, including some weekly classes beginning this week and several summer outdoor events:

Media Mania Lab: July 7 at 12 p.m.

Description: Kids will learn to design video game mazes, make animations and short videos, and alter photos through this weekly class.

Project Art Classes: July 8 at 2:30 p.m.

Description: Every week kids will learn about painting, drawing, and making collages as well as other elements of art through a professional artist. They will also learn about famous artists from the past and be encouraged to explore their own distinctive styles. Finally, participants will get to attend a professional show at a contemporary art gallery towards the end of the class. Space is limited, so registration is required.

Outdoor Cinema 2014: July 9 at 7 p.m.

Description: This international film festival will focus on movies from a different county or culture each week. Families can picnic on the grass and watch the films on an outdoor screen. Pre-screening performances begin at 7 p.m. while films officially begin at sunset, depending on the weather.

Metropolitan Opera Summer Recital Series: July 10 at 7 p.m.

Description: Returning for its third season, the Met Opera Summer Recital Series will feature three talented Met singers performing acts from a variety of operas. The performances will be by Mary Jane Lee (soprano), Ginger Costa-Jackson (mezzo-soprano), and Yunpeng Wang (baritone), accompanied by pianist Dan Saunders.
