Here are some events upcoming this week in nature in San Diego from February 13th to February 19th, 2012.
Nature Walks:
Mission Trails Regional Park will have several nature walks this week. The first one is on Wednesday February 15th at 9:30AM and begins at the visitor's center on Father Junipero Serra Trail. This event repeats on Saturday, February 18th and Sunday, February 19th at the same time and place. There will also be a guided bird walk on the 18th at 8AM beginning at the visitor's center.
The San Diego Audubon Society will be hosting a monthly bird count at their Silverwood Sanctuary on 13003 Wildcat Canyon Road in Lakeside on Wednesday, February 15th from 8AM to 12PM. Call 619-443-2998 for more information and to confirm that this event will be taking place.
Also at Silverwood Sancturary, there will be a guided nature tour on Sunday, Febrary 19th from 10AM to 1:30PM. Call 619-443-2998 for more information.
The Tijuana River Natural Estuarine Research Rerserve (TRNERR) will have its bi-monthly bird walk on Sunday, February 19th at 3PM for about one hour. Meet at the visitor's center at 301 Caspian Way in Imperial Beach.
Friends of Famosa Slough will hold it's monthly bird walk on Saturday, February 18th beginning at 1PM and lasting about one to two hours. Meet at the kiosk on the corner of Famosa Boulevard and West Point Loma Boulevard.
Stewardship Opportunities:
Members of the WildCAT group will be working on Fiesta Island to flag native plants in preparation for an upcoming weed abatement. Meet at the parking lot near the entrance to Fiesta Island on Wednesday February 15th at 2PM. The San Diego Audubon Society will be on Fiesta Island on February 18th at 9AM to pull up invasive plants in preparation for the upcoming least tern nesting season. If you have your own gloves, that would be great, otherwise you can borrow some of theirs. Snacks and water will be provided. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult and volunteers under 17 have to have their parent or guardian sign a waiver.
