On January 22, 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in the Roe v. Wade case that the right to privacy, under the due process clause of the 14th Amendment, applies to a woman's decision to have an abortion.
On Wednesday January 30, the Freedom of Choice Ohio Coalition and the Columbus Section of the National Council of Jewish Women is hosting a celebration of the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade at the Gateway Film Center. There will be a reception at 6 p.m. with pizza appetizers and cash bar. The program begins at 7 p.m.
Dr. Susan Wood, Executive Director of the Jacobs Institute of Women's Health at George Washington University, will be the keynote speaker. Dr. Wood is the former assistant FDA commissioner for women's health, who resigned in 2005 to protest delays in approving broader access to Plan B emergency contraception.
