This Week on YouTube: Nationwide Series DRIVE4COPD 300 crash from the stands

33 people were injured when a car slammed into the gate at the Nationwide Series DRIVE4COPD 300 race on Saturday, February 23, 2013. Although many saw the crash on the news from the race track, few have viewed the wreckage from the stands; until now. One clever attendee happened to be filming when the crash happened, capturing the good, bad, and ugly of the accident.

The footage begins with loudness. NASCAR fans are cheering for their favorite drivers and talking among friends when suddenly a wave of dust sweeps through followed by debris and a tire. Individuals sitting closest to the race track are completely taken by surprise and scream for medics after the wave passes through. Even the person taping is shocked, yelling for a medic to help an injured attendee sitting near him.

Despite the crash that injured many, NASCAR moved forward with the Daytona 500 race on Sunday, February 24, 2013 and crowned Jimmie Johnson its winner.
