— “Making it” in the mobile app industry is difficult to define — especially since everyone has a different definition of success. While some app developers are eager to change the world, others are just happy getting some recognition and providing a good time to mobile gamers.
No matter which type of developer/entrepreneur you are in New York City, it’s always a good idea to network, network and network some more. Brilliant minds with great ideas are plentiful in the city, and tech meetups are the vessels in that stream. As your No. 1 guide to meetups in Silicon Alley, Appular always makes sure to have a presence at the best tech events in NYC, and we love keeping track of what’s new.
Our friends at NYC Mobile Forum put on yet another great night of demos and networking at the AOL offices near Union Square. As the name suggests, the event focused around mobile technology in the health sector. App developers from CareWrite and Personal Beasties gave attendees a peek at their apps, and a good time was had by all.
A Look Ahead
Tech Tuesdays at the Seaport
Only a few blocks from the Appular headquarters is the South Street Seaport. It’s a historic district in NYC that is home to some of the oldest architecture in the city, but that doesn’t stop techies from showing up and sharing their innovation. This weekly event always hosts some of the city’s finest tech groups, and this week is no different. Paperless Post, a website and app that allows users to send beautiful invites to events and manage RSVPs, is throwing its “Welcome to NYC Party” at the port Tuesday, Sept. 3. Fittingly enough, they can expect plenty of people to RSVP for this event. The fun starts at 7 p.m. at the seaport.
Demo and Get Feedback
WeWork Labs is co-hosting this event with the great meetup group nReduce. The name says it all. If you’re developing an app, come on down and show it off to other developers. One of the great parts about meetups is the feedback and interaction with other tech geniuses. The demo-ing starts at 6:30 p.m., so show up ready to give and receive important feedback to your fellow developers.
Josh Clark - Beyond Mobile: Where No Geek Has Gone Before
Josh Clark knows a few things about apps. He’s the author of “Tapworthy: Designing Great iPhone Apps” and expert designer, strategist and UXer. He’s giving a presentation in the lovely XO Tech office that app developers are going to want to hear. Clark is a trendsetter, so it’ll benefit anyone in the tech community. Also, judging by the current RSVP list, a ton of developers and entrepreneurs are already set to attend. Looks like it’s another great networking opportunity from the group New York iOS Developer Meetup. The event starts at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5.
