— It was an exciting week for the mobile app community. The release of iOS 7 was billed as the biggest change in design for the company in years, and in Appular’s opinion, it delivered. The new, flat design looks great, and we can’t wait to fire up the new iPhones the minute they’re in our hands.
Last week was just another reason we love being in the mobile app business. Alongside constant innovation among the industry giants, we have a front-row seat to the myriad of indie developers in NYC pushing the boundaries of design, user experience and problem solving with apps.
These tech-genius entrepreneurs are on full display at the city’s many meetups, and we are always searching for the best opportunities to meet, connect and learn from them. Before we talk about the coming week’s meetups, let’s take a look back at what we enjoyed last week.
Back to School! with Joe Burgess, Julie Yaunches, & Tapestry
School is back in session for kids across NYC, so in keeping with that theme, the great people at Brooklyn iOS Developer Meetup held this event to take local developers back to school with some great demos. A good time was had by all, and attendees even got a look at one of our favorite storytelling apps, Tapestry. Check it out, and keep an eye out for more meetups from this awesome group.
A Look Ahead
iOS 7 Features and Design Paradigms for Developers
Aviary has been a top-five photography and video app since it launched in 2012, and their amazing team wants to talk about how they prepared for iOS 7 and what everybody else can do to maximize its capabilities. They’ve also invited other developers to bring apps they’re working on for some idea-exchanging. This is the quintessential NYC meetup because not only does it harvest an informative, collaborative spirit, but they’ve made time for beer, pizza and networking, too! Hopefully this is the first of many great meetups from Aviary, as they’re a newly formed group on Meetup.com.
September Prince Building Tech Talk
Developing an app can be incredibly difficult and frustrating at times, but this meetup was made to give people a helping hand with some great tips. Photis Patriotis, director of engineering at the mobile product agency Prolific Interactive, will talk about some of the mobile development tools his company uses to overcome some of the challenges people face when creating apps. The event, hosted by the Prince Building Tech Talks group, will be held in the office of our friends at Thrillist — one of the coolest news sites around.
Get Faster Simply; Get Simple Faster
App demos, networking, giveaways and cold drinks. What else could you possibly ask for? This event has it all, and it will be at the beautiful Culturefix space in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, which makes sense, as it will be put on by the meetup group #Startupfix at Culturefix. Come by and take a look at some great demos, including a peek at Strito — a social networking app that shows what people are talking about around you at any given moment.
