Here are some highlights for running in the New York City and Brooklyn area this week:
Weather
The abormally warm temperatures continue this week, as the weather in the New York City area remains in the high 30s and 40s, reaching 52 on Monday and Tuesday. Saturday will be the coldest day of the week with a high of 38 expected The week is expected to be quite dry, although a few showers are expected on Thursday.
Running events and meetings
JackRabbit Sports will hold three weekly runs at its locations in New York, including:
- Monday, February 6 at 6 p.m., Upper East Side (1255 Lexington Avenue)
- Tuesday, February 7 at 7 p.m., Union Square (42 West 14th Street)
- Wednesday, February 8 at 7 p.m., Park Slope (151 7th Avenue, Brooklyn)
Additionally, JackRabbit Sports will host yoga for runners on Saturday, February 11 at 8:30 a.m. at its Union Square location (42 West 14th Street). Reserve your spot by emailing custserv@jackrabbitsports.com (RSVP is required).
Prospect Park Track Club will also host its weekly runs on Wednesday and Saturday this week, for members and non-members. On Wednesday, the club will meet at Grand Army Plaza at 7:15 p.m. and on Saturday, they will meet in the same location at 8 a.m.
Races
The Empire State Building Run-Up will be held on Wedesday, February 8 at 8 p.m. Runners will run 86 flights to the top of the Empire State Building in this uncoventional run. Open registration is closed, but spots are still available for the run by registering with a charity group. The MMRF Power Team is still accepting entries.
New York Road Runners will host the third track meet in its Thursday Night at the Races at the New Balance Track and Field Center at the Armory. The meet will kick off at 7 p.m., but registration opens at 6:15 p.m. For $20, runners are able to participate in as many races as they like on the world-class indoor track.
Several Cupid's Chase 5Ks will be kicking off on Saturday, February 11. Manhattan, Hartfort, Conn., and several cities in New Jersey will host this nationwide racing event that benefits people with disabilities. Also on Saturday, February 11 is the kick-off of the Nassau Race Series in Old Bethpage, NY.
For those interested in racing on Sunday, February 12, there are several options, including the Valentine's 5K Run in Prospect Park and the fourth race in the Passaic County Runners' Club's Winter Series.
