This week families can expect the following events to take place, including the first of many origami classes at Long Island City Library, a reading partners program in Jamaica, gallery talks at Noguchi Museum, and much more.

Reading Partners Program at P.S. 86: Jan. 28 at variable times

Description: Volunteer to help someone learn to read. Meet one-on-one with a struggling reader to help him/her develop a passion for reading. This program has helped over 10,000 students become confident readers through its Reading Partners curriculum. Through their time and dedication, volunteers can easily become mentors, friends, and heroes to their students. No prior classroom experience is necessary in order to volunteer.

Gallery Talks at Noguchi Museum: Jan. 30 at 2 p.m.

Description: Participants are encouraged to share their observations and interpretations of all the exhibits on display throughout the museum tour; reservations not required. Every first Friday and second Sunday of the month gallery talks will also be conducted in Japanese.

Origami Fun at Long Island City Library: Jan. 30 at 3 p.m.

Description: Every Thursday beginning this week, participants will learn about the Japanese art of origami; registration not required.
