This week, families in and around Western Queens can partake in the following special activities, including an Earth Hour program at Steinway library, a weather workshop, a green market in Forest Hills, and much more!

Earth Hour: March 17 at 5 p.m.

Description: In this exciting after-school program, members of the Greening Libraries staff will teach children about environmental topics pertaining to the water cycle, electricity, and ecological services.

Weather in the Watershed: March 17 at 6:30 p.m.

Description: This workshop will teach kids how the weather stations installed atop select Queens Library buildings work, how they collect data, and how you can access the data they collect from online. Find out more about how the weather affects our urban environment and see a demonstration of a Combined Sewage Overflow using our "Sewer in a Suitcase" model; registration not required.

Jamaica Bay Greenway Community Workshops: March 20 at 6:30 p.m.

Description: Up to four workshops will be held in communities around the bay between March and April. Come listen to ideas and give voice to ways that access to the greenway, waterfront, and parkland can be improved.

Found-Object Puppet Making: March 21 at 4 p.m.

Description: Urban Stages' puppeteers will show you how to take objects that might otherwise get thrown away, such as bottles, cans and paper tubes, and transform them into animated puppets. Materials will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, as long as quantities last; registration not required.
