This week at the RI General Assembly: Jan. 27,-Jan.30, 2014

On Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, the Rhode Island General Assembly is in session. The both sections of the legislative body will meet at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. This Tuesday marks the fourth week of the legislative session.

This week both the Senate and the House of Representatives will meet at the same time but their offices have not posted their agendas. However, there are a lot of legislative committees scheduled as of Friday, Jan. 24, 2014. There are eight committees meeting this week; one of which will be occurring on Monday afternoon.

Here is the schedule:

Monday, Jan. 27, 2014

Joint Committee on State Lottery

The Joint Committee on State Lottery meets at 4:00 p.m. at the R.I. Lottery, which is located at 1425 Pontiac Avenue, in Cranston, R.I. On the committee’s agenda are updates on the financials, facilities and efficiency of the Rhode Island Lottery.

Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014

House Committee on Corporations

The House Committee on Corporations meets at the Rise of the House, in State House Room 203. Tuesday’s meeting will consider the following legislation: Senate Bill 2044, Senate Bill 2125, House Bill 7079, House Bill 7080, House Bill 7116 and House Resolution 7117.

House Committee on Judiciary

The House Committee on Judiciary meets at the Rise of the House in State House Room 101. Items up for consideration by the committee relate to officiating marriages, elections, background checks and the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation.

Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014

House Committee on Finance

The House Committee on Finance meets at the Rise of the House in State House Room 35. The committee will be discussing the governor’s fiscal year 2015 budget.

House Committee on Health, Education and Welfare

The House Committee on Health, Education and Welfare meets at the Rise of the House in State House Room 135. The committee will consider legislation dealing with health and safety, busing and genetically modified organisms in cosmetics and food.

House Committee on Small Businesses

The House Committee on Small Businesses meets at the Rise of the House in State House Room 101. The committee will consider licenses and contracts.

Senate Committee on Special Legislation and Veterans’ Affairs

The Senate Committee on Special Legislation and Veterans’ Affairs meets at the Rise of the Senate in State House Room 310 to discuss the status of the new Bristol Veterans’ Home.

Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014

House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs

The House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs meets at 5:00 p.m. in State House Room 101, to discuss legislation about burials, licenses and cost of living adjustments.
