Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
Zealous means to be diligent, active, devoted, fervent, intense and passionate. Not apathetic, lackadaisical, without interest, without vigor, without determination or just plain lazy.
We tend to be zealous about our social connections – facebook, linkedin, myspace, twitter, stumbledupon, and the list goes on and on. We’re zealous about our social clubs such as various book clubs, singles groups, travel clubs, exercise groups and once again the list goes on and on.
But we tend to omit God most times in our day to day connections
There is one who is more zealous than the majority of those in this world that confess to be Christians. He is the grand master of evil, the great slanderer, Satan the Devil.
In the book of Job it reads:
Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them.
Yes, it is true, when we assemble together to praise the Lord – Satan’s spirit assembles as well and causes confusion, doubt, deceit and chaos. He can come in through the church doors with any one of us. That is why we have to always be of a prayerful mind:
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
That’s why we need to study the scriptures daily and search for Gods’ will and purpose for us like searching for hidden treasures of silver. We need to be more zealous than Satan the Devil. But most of all we need to be pleasing in the sight of the Lord, who is our final judge at the end of the day for eternity.
2 Timothy 2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;
Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;
If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;
Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.
That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;
Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled
In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
THIS IS THE WILL OF GOD FOR MANKIND
LET US BE ZEALOUS TO PLEASE GOD FOR ALL ETERNITY!
