1 Thessalonians 4:11
And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;
(also read 1 Thessalonians 4:1-11)
The lessons taught to the people of Thessalonica are relevant to us even today.
God fearing people, especially, are to be about pleasing God first and foremost. We are to always follow the example of Jesus our Lord Saviour.
- Adhering to the commandments of God.
Matthew 17:5 - While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
John 15:10 - If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
- Maintaining a clean and holy body.
Romans 8:13 - For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
1 Corinthians 6:19 - What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
- Increasing in godliness day after day
Philippians 1:9 - And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;
1 Thessalonians 4:1 - Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.
- And as the above scripture teaches be busy about the Lords will and work, not busybodies meddling in other peoples’ business
2 Thessalonians 3:11 - For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.
1 Timothy 5:13 - And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.
Study to be quiet, working the Lords' will, always.
