At Stories by the River (SbtR), we believe that movies have the power to explore tough questions and change the world for the better. We also believe that New England has a unique tapestry of talented filmmakers, writers, and actors. We launched SbtR in 2012. Since then, we've created 5 short films, picked 1 short film up for distribution, and hosted a film festival focused on celebrating filmmakers in New England and around the country. Currently, we have 2 films in pre-production with 2 more lined up for pre-production within the year. We love to dream big. So we decided to dream even bigger by asking: How can we further collaborate with more filmmakers in New England?

As we look forward, we have hopes to continue our ambitious short film producing schedule, partner in feature films, and continue to grow the SbtR Film Festival. One of our core objectives is to work with new filmmakers. Many have worked with us and many have demonstrated a desire to work with us again and/or have partnered with us already on multiple projects. While we imagine that most people have at least some sense of our philosophy, we’d like to do an even better job expressing why we believe that movies are a catalyst for discovering meaning in life.

To this end, we would like to invite you to our first ever SbtR Forum where you’ll have the opportunity to schmooze and hear more about what we imagine could happen here in New England. To be clear, we are not proposing that people drop everything they're doing to work only with SbtR. We are more interested in starting a conversation and fostering relationships.

We want to hear from you: your ideas, why you make movies, and what kinds of opportunities you are looking for! Who knows, together we might find new ways to partner and tell great stories.

Our plan: To host at least two forums. This first one will serve as an introduction that gives people the opportunity to decide if this is something of interest to them. The second will be more of a “think-tank experience” where we explore why each of us is in the room and how using filmmaking can make the world a better place to be. Based on our open-ended conversations, we will take things from there.

Please RSVP here. We’ll provide some snacks, but if you’d like a more substantial meal, please do not hesitate to bring your dinner. Also, please feel free to invite others to join us. We’d love to see as many people in the room as possible.

We believe that this kind of purposeful engagement with filmmaking is rewarding and we are excited to hear what you have to offer in this dialogue. Hope to see you there!
