This Valentine's Day, new 'Die Hard' and romance with 'Safe Haven'

If you’re looking to spend Valentine’s Day at the movies, you’re in luck. This weekend’s new releases are hitting theaters a day early for the occasion, and include something for everyone, including the romance “Safe Haven” and the action-packed new “Die Hard” movie. What will you be seeing? Read about those films and this weekend’s other new releases below.

Nationwide Releases:

A Good Day to Die Hard”: Directed by John Moore, this latest film in the “Die Hard” franchise has Bruce Willis reprising his role as policeman John McClane, who travels to Russia to help out his estranged son Jack (Jai Courtney). While there, John discovers that Jack is a CIA agent trying to stop the country from stealing nuclear weapons, and teams up with him to stop them. Runtime: 97 minutes. Rated R for violence and language.

Beautiful Creatures”: This fantasy based on the book of the same name and directed by Richard LaGravenese is set in the South, where teenage girl Lena (Alice Englert), destined to be a witch, will be claimed by either lightness or darkness on her birthday. She meets and falls for Ethan (Alden Ehrenreich), and together they discover the dark secrets surrounding their town and their families. Runtime: 124 minutes. Rated PG-13 for violence, scary images and some sexual material.

Safe Haven”: Based on a book by Nicolas Sparks and directed by Lasse Halstrom, this romantic drama stars Julianne Hough as Katie, a woman who moves to North Carolina to escape her past and start a new life. There, she develops bonds with the tight-knit community and falls for the kind widower Alex (Josh Duhamel), forcing her to confront the dark secret haunting her. Runtime: 115 minutes. Rated PG-13 for thematic material including threatening behavior, and for violence and sexuality.

Escape from Planet Earth”: This animated comedy directed by Cal Brunker follows astronaut Scorch Supernova (Brendan Fraser) from the planet Baab. When he answers an SOS from the infamously dangerous planet Earth, Scorch finds himself caught in a trap. Available for viewing in 3D. Runtime: 89 minutes. Rated PG for some action and mild rude humor.
