The 21st Annual Christian Writers Seminar takes place Feb. 21 and 22 at Redwood Chapel Community Church in San Francisco’s East Bay area. The seminar provides skills and training for aspiring Christian writers with a generous menu of workshops and activities based on the theme “Writing to Change the World.”

Keynote speaker Susy Flory will speak in the welcome session on “Diving In: Getting Started” on Friday evening. On Saturday morning, she addresses “Becoming a Good Storyteller: What Only You Can Say.” Her closing message wraps up the seminar with “Connecting With the Reader: Moments of Light and Grace.” Flory is the bestselling author of Dog Tales and Thunder Dog: A Blind Man, A Guide Dog, and the Triumph of Trust at Ground Zero.

The seminar offers specialized tracks with sessions focusing on fiction writing, writing for children, storytelling and article writing. Attendees can choose from ten workshops in each of four time periods to customize the conference experience. Each workshop provides leadership by writers accomplished in those fields. More than twenty speakers will share their expertise, including Guideposts award winner Marci Seither, Inspire Christian Writers founder Beth Thompson, 1994 Mount Hermon Writer of the Year Ken Jones and 2011 Mount Hermon Writer of the Year Sarah Sundin.

The forty scheduled topics include “The Call to Write” with Jan Coleman, “Writing Fiction to Transform” with Marlo Schalesky, “How to Write Suspense” with Rick Acker and “Turbocharged Internet Research: Work Faster and Smarter” with Pat Sikora. Other sessions look at tools for marketing, genre specific writing and effective critique groups. Check the complete schedule here.

Other resources available through the conference include a conferee’s binder with outlines of all sessions, book table, CDs of the conference sessions for sale, the opportunity to network with other Christian writers and some opportunities for critiques.

Full conference registration is $109.00 with paid pre-registration received before Feb. 14 or $139 at the door for adults; teens can pre-register for an $89 fee, or $109 at the door. The $40 pre-registration fee is non-refundable. Registration includes pastries, juice and coffee on Saturday morning and pre-registration includes Saturday lunch.

The annual conference is a non-profit ministry of Redwood Chapel Community Church, 19300 Redwood Road, Castro Valley, California.
