Over this past weekend, Theology-on-Tap officially returned to Chicago. The first sessions were held on Sunday, July 13, 2014, and will continue until early August. Over 32 different locations around the Archdiocese of Chicago are hosting Theology-on-Tap this year, along with additional locations around in the Chicago area in the Diocese of Joliet and the Diocese of Gary, IN.

If you've missed my columns from past years on the subject, or aren't aware of what Theology-on-Tap is, then Theology-on-Tap is definitely for you! I won't rehash old details, but to make a long story short, Theology-on-Tap is a free lecture series for young adult Catholics, both married and single. Catholics in their 20s & 30s learn about and discuss Catholic topics. Alcohol is often served at these events (hence the name of the program) and so Theology-on-Tap is aimed at adults age 21 and up (participants need not be 21 to attend, but due to age restrictions they won't be able to consume alcohol if they are 18-20). The program itself started right here in the Archdiocese of Chicago, at St. James in Arlington Heights back in 1981. It quickly became an enormous success and has now spread throughout the world.

To do my part in helping my readers learn about Theology-on-Tap, what follows is a sample of the many parishes throughout the Chicago area that are having Theology-on-Tap sessions this month. The format and subject matters vary widely from site to site. Most parishes chose to have a free dinner and drinks somewhere on their parish grounds, while others will use more informal “hosting sites” nearby, such as a pub or pizzeria Most TOT lectures are in English, but some parishes in the archdiocese also offer Spanish-only sessions for parishioners who may have difficulty with English. Be sure to check the Young Adult Ministry website of your diocese for information about any of these sites (which I have also provided links to). Have fun and don't forget to mention that Examiner.com gave you the heads up!
