This is Long Beach: From Snoop Doggy Dogg to action on the ocean

This is Long Beach—or Strong Beach for those who know it well. Sheltered by a stretch of breakwater, Long Beach isn’t known for big wave surfing. But the LBC is the perfect spot to check out Southern California’s two favorite toys in action: cars and boats.

In just over a month’s time, they’ll start spilling white and black paint on Shoreline Drive for the Long Beach Grand Prix. Boats in Alamitos Bay, Rainbow, and Shoreline Marinas will ready for races to Catalina. The winds will shift and big-wave surfers will load into cars for the 20-minute ride down Hwy 1 to The Wedge in Newport Beach as it climbs to a max height of 30 feet in the summer months.

This is the land of Snoop Dogg’s stomping grounds, regattas and hidden skate parks. This is the beach town equidistant from Catalina and the Los Angeles X Games. In the words of our most famous poet, this is “the city they call Long Beach.”
