Third time is a charm for Van Buren against Ashland

It is tough to defeat a team three times during a season.

That theory came true again Monday evening when the Van Buren Crusaders defeated Ashland 53-48 in a play in game at the University of Maine at Fort Kent.

The Hornets earned two wins against Van Buren during the regular season including a 53-45 victory at Van Buren in the regular season finale four days ago.

Marc Lajoie and Caleb Roy scored 19 points each to lead the Crusaders.

Van Buren (7-12) will travel to Washburn for a preliminary round game at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Crusaders were much more competitive in their second match-up of the season against the high powered Beavers from Washburn.

Mitch Worcester hit 11 three pointers and scored 53 points in a 90-42 Washburn victory on December 14th at Van Buren.

Washburn held an eight point halftime lead on January 11th and cruised to a 52-38 victory over the Crusaders at Washburn high school.
